Garrison Keeler's recent editorial asks the question, "Can you trust a Methodist in power?"
I suppose it depends on which one's in question...

A blog of Cambridge Welcoming Ministries, an open and affirming, progressive, United Methodist faith community dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of God's love with all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and straight persons. The title for the blog comes from our congregation's first book study on a text by Elizabeth Stuart entitled "Religion Is A Queer Thing: A Guide to the Christian Faith for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Persons" (Pilgrim Press, 1998).

Garrison Keillor greatly misjudged his audience in Dallas. There's a recent article in the United Methodist Reporter about his appearance at Highland Park UMC in Dallas, Texas. Question is, can we trust Mr. Keillor's observation of a Methodist? Seems the imagination that serves him so well in Prairie Home Companion did him a diservice in Dallas. To perhaps underscore Keillor's misjudgment of the people in Dallas, Dallas County went from a Republican county to a Democrat county in this past Tuesday's elections. Every county position, judge, district attorney went from a Republican candidate/incumbent to a Democratic candidate.
